The Syracuse Project
University City, San Diego Ca
This University City project was a significant transformation. What started as a small, closed-off kitchen became the kind of open, flowing space that completely changes how a family lives in their home. We expanded the layout, reconfigured the floor plan, added a dedicated office and guest bathroom, and redesigned the interiors from top to bottom.
The new kitchen is the heart of it all. A long white island runs the full length of the space and opens directly into the living room, making the entire main floor feel connected and intentional. White cabinetry, warm wood floating shelves, black hardware, and a mix of black and gold pendants keep the palette crisp without feeling cold.
The fireplace wall in the living room was redesigned with a full surround, built-in shelving, and a clean-lined mantle that anchors the room beautifully. The staircase with natural wood treads and slim black iron balusters adds an architectural moment that carries the design language from the main floor upward. Every space in this home now has a point of view and they all speak the same language.
Adding the office and guest bathroom turned a house that was barely functional for a growing family into one that works for everyday life and looks great doing it.
