The Rolando Project
Rolando, La Mesa Ca
This is the kind of project that reminds us why we love older homes. This 1940s Rolando bungalow had real character worth preserving, so rather than wiping the slate clean we worked with what was already there. The original hardwood floors were refinished and kept, the vaulted ceiling lines were celebrated, and the layout was updated in a way that feels completely fresh without losing the soul of the house.
The kitchen remodel is the centerpiece of the transformation. White shaker cabinetry, a dramatic honed dark slab island and countertops, matte black fixtures, and a subtle mosaic tile backsplash create a look that is clearly modern while still feeling at home in a 1940s neighborhood. The zellige tile in the kitchen adds a nod to vintage character that ties the old and new together beautifully. The professional range and integrated refrigerator bring the function fully up to date.
The result is a home that feels like it has always looked this good. That is the goal with any older home remodel and this one delivered.
